Investment protection in free trade agreements helps to ensure that all the costs of a project are taken into account and borne in the democratic decision-making process and that property rights are not infringed as far as possible.

The anti-TTIP campaigns are particularly successful in Germany. In Germany, only a minority supports the planned free trade agreement.
