Trump´s protectionist ambitions under the microscope

The threatened tariffs on imports from China and the NAFTA countries would only affect a few - albeit important - US industries.  However, if import tariffs were imposed across the board, a number of industries would be significantly affected.

This is because trade exposure is much higher in the aggregate than in bilateral relations with China and the NAFTA countries. Such negative effect would be particularly the case for machinery and equipment, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, as well as water and air transport services.
