The new German european policy has no interests

by Thomas Mayer, Norbert F. Tofall

The exploratory talks and coalition negotiations between the CDU/CSU and the SPD lead one to expect a new German European policy in which the representation of German interests no longer plays a role.

This new German European policy should deepen the division of Europe. There is even a danger that the countries of Central and Eastern Europe will leave the European Union. A German European policy must openly oppose the French tendency to state interventionism and planification and resolutely and consistently defend liberal economic positions and German regulatory policy à la Ludwig Erhard.
