The never-ending story of the euro

Conflicting economic and political convictions lead to lazy compromises in the Eurozone. No stable currency can be built on this.

The Meseberg Declaration is the most recent chapter in the history of a European monetary union whose contractually agreed values are gradually dissolving into nothing during the euro crisis. Rhetoric and joint declarations of intent cannot distract from how quickly the principles of the Maastricht Treaty were thrown overboard during the euro crisis.
