Strategic security gap in Europe

Putin's reference to Russia's new nuclear arsenal is not only due to the Russian presidential election in two weeks, but follows consistently from the Russian military doctrine of 25 December 2014, which aims to bring former Soviet republics home to the Russian Empire and regain hegemonic influence on former Warsaw Pact states. Putin has already managed to create a strategic security gap in Europe.
