Free and fair US trade?

The average tariff level on US imports of 3.8% might be among the lowest worldwide, as claimed by the US administration. But the US is highly protectionist through the back-door of non-tariff trade barriers.

USA has been the most intensive user of non-tariff measures. Many of these measures are actually not used in response to ‘unfair’ trade, as the WTO rules under some circumstances would allow, but to protect national industries from foreign competitors.
