Since 1978, Deng Xiaoping's "Opening and Reform" and the "Four Modernizations" have achieved enormously high growth rates due to the "advantages of backwardness" without having to grant freedom in the political and social sphere.

It is very likely that China today finds itself in a socio-economic situation in which it has exhausted the advantages of backwardness and must grant freedom in all areas of society to enable prosperity for all.
