Consequences for the federal budget in the event of Greece's insolvency

by Norbert F. Tofall

The German risk of loss in the event of Greece's insolvency is around 90 billion euros. This amount corresponds to about 30 percent of the federal budget for 2015.

A burden on the federal budget would arise from 2020 onwards and would last until 2057. The lowest annual burden would be 0.199 billion euros (2020) in the event of a total failure, and the highest would be 3.051 billion euros (2054). In the years 2049, 2051 and 2052 there will even be no burden at all.
