A digital euro to save EMU

In this paper I summarize my proposal, which has appeared in various publications, to relaunch the euro as digital central bank money.

The relaunch offers four important advantages: (1) a secure European common currency without the need to create a political union, (2) a monetary order less vulnerable to investment boom and bust cycles, (3) an end to the sovereign bank doom loop, and (4) the strengthening of the euro as a major international transaction and reserve currency.
